Study In Australia

Following is a brief explanation and examples of the most common accommodation options chosen by our visiting students.
Please don't hesitate to contact us for further information or advice.
Homestays
Homestay is when you pay a weekly fee to a family to live with them as a family member. A homestay could be in a house, an apartment or a flat (see below). It includes most meals and you must live by the rules of the host family as any other member of the family. Homestay hosts come in many different forms. Homestays are usually shared with other international students (non-exclusive). If you specifically want an exclusive homestay, additional fees may apply and the homestay may be more expensive.

The host family structure can range from a single working host to a family with children. When applying for a homestay, you can express preferences for the type of family you are wanting but there is no guarantee - it depends on what is available at the time. If you are not familiar with homestays, your Aviation Centre counsellor can tell you more about how to prepare and live smoothly with a homestay.

Houses
Australian houses are usually quite large and have a yard and garage for cars. Many have swimming pools and some even have a tennis court. Following are sometypical examples of Australian houses where you might live as a homestay or in a share house curtesy of realestate.com.au - Australia's leading on-line home buyer's and renter's guide.

Apartments
Apartments are becoming very popular in Australia - especially closer to the major cities where many people prefer the convenience and safety of an apartment building. Standard apartments (also called "units") are 2 to 4 levels high and do not have a central management office. Apartment towers are also popular. They are very tall buildings - up to 70 levels - and usually have furnished options and on-site management offices.

Flats
Flats are a smaller and usually cheaper option. They are small buildings up to 2 levels or converted houses that have been split into separate living areas. Each area usually has its own kitchen, bathroom and living area and a separate mail box, phone and electricity. Flats are popular with students as they are usually cheaper than apartments.
